Steve was inspired to retrain as an horologist after discovering the world of watchmaking through reading George Daniels’ seminal book on the subject: ‘Watchmaking’. Steve began his training as a Watchmaker under the stewardship of Paul Gamble (MBHI) in Derby, a highly experienced Watchmaker with 40 years at the bench. During five years of practical training in Derby, Steve also attended residential training seminars at the British Horological Institute (BHI).
In addition to practical training in Derby, Steve studied for three years at Birmingham City University’s School of Jewellery for the Certificate in the Repair, Restoration and Conservation for Watches. Here, Steve’s skills and enthusiasm for horology were recognised by the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers who awarded him the prestigious John Harrison Bursary for each of his three years of study.
Steve’s practical excellence in horology during his time at the School of Jewellery has also won prizes, being awarded a Certificate of Merit by the British Jewellers Association for the best practical work in his first year and the Beresford Hutchinson South London Branch Prize for the best practical test piece in his final year. Since graduating from the School of Jewellery, Steve has worked for several watch repair companies and is highly experienced in repairing and servicing a wide variety of vintage, modern mechanical and quartz watches, including pocket watches.
Following relocation to Hampshire in 2010, Steve is now an independent Watchmaker offering a high quality watchrepair service. Steve maintains high standards through continuing professional training and brings craftsmanship as well as personal integrity and enthusiasm to his work. He is a member of the BHI and The British Watch and Clock Makers' Guild.
